![]() ![]() Within the ancient ruins of Tide Pool, a player can clone. Tide Pool is what remains of the Empress' once great empire, now overgrown with coral and seaweed and infested with sea creatures and undead Jiang Shi. It is the parallel to Temple of Anubis, the other fourth world in the game that the player can choose to go through after Olmec's Lair. Even managing to avoid picking up gold requires concentration that I simply do not possess. Tide Pool is a brand new area found in Spelunky 2. ![]() I've played Spelunky for hundreds of hours but I couldn't do a single part of this. My favourite part is maybe the very end, 36:20, when you discover what's necessary to confirm that your kill count is still at zero. There's lots of terrifying stuff throughout hell though - obv - so it's all worth a watch. You can see him tackle Anubis at around 17:30, Olmec from 21:03 (dropping him in the lava counts as your kill), and Yama from 31:40. You can see this best at around 2 minutes 50 seconds when the player enters the Black Market, and must obtain the Ankh without buying it (because no gold) and without killing the shopkeepers who'll aggro if you steal it.Īs if this wasn't hard enough, you've then got the essential enemies and bosses. ![]() That's, I guess, the circle of life, and so much of the 36 minute-long video below is spent kiting enemies into one another when they can't be avoided altogether. Leading a bat around the level and into the mouth of a man-eating plant? That's not a kill. How do you kill things without violence? Well, you'll see.įor starters, the run uses the game's own metric for counting kills, so whipping a bat? That's a kill. ![]() To clarify: entering into the game's Hell world requires obtaining the Ankh from the Black Market, killing Anubis for his staff, killing Olmec, and completing the game requires killing Yama in hell. If the player already unlocked Au, a Hired Hand will be inside instead.I'm used to Spelunky speedruns being filled with incredible feats, but the "No Gold True Pacifist Hell Run" below is a thing of wonder. Somewhere in the level, a player can find a specific room containing four Pots of Gold and a Coffin containing the playable Spelunker Au. The bull has an Ankh on its forehead, serving as a hint sacrificing oneself on the Altar here while the Ankh is in the player's possession will consume it and teleport them and any other players or Hired Hands to the Duat, where they can battle Osiris and Anubis II for the Tablet of Destiny and a Jetpack. There is also a guaranteed Kali Altar spawn in the level, although a massive bull statue is in place of the typical statue of Kali. Giant Crush Traps are found here as well, also made of solid gold.Īlthough the City of Gold is a magical place of legend bursting with profit, the player should still exercise caution traveling the area, as multiple Croc Men and Mummies reside here and Giant Crush Traps can easily blend in with the rest of the environment.įalling from a great height onto the Altar and using it and the Ankh to enter the Duat. Numerous Leprechauns make their home here, making it easy to obtain a Four-leaf Clover here as well as one of their many Pots of Gold found around the level. With the help of The Ghost, turning all gems into diamonds however, the player can obtain upwards of $1,100,000. If the player were to collect each and every single block in the level, they will typically gain a little under $800,000, if they did not bother to transform all of the gems in the level to diamonds with the help of The Ghost. Golden Scarabs are a common sight here, being the only occurrence of them outside of a sub-area or dark level. Unlike most levels that occupy a 4x4 grid of rooms, The City of Gold is sized at a 5x5 grid of rooms, giving the player more gold for them to obtain.Īs implied, every single block in The City of Gold is made of the shiny material, and will explode into collectable chunks when destroyed. ![]()
